COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH CENTER 874 HOSTS BRAIN DAY FOR THE FOURTH TIME
For the fourth time the Collaborative Research Centre 874 put the brain at the center of attention with a wide range of lectures and activities. The day touched a multitude of subjects: from first-person-shooter video games, talks on Alzheimer’s disease and stuttering, and demonstrations of “augmented reality”. Additionally there was the opportunity to get in touch with support-groups for neurological diseases, which offer their help and guidance in the region.
FIRST-PERSON-SHOOTER VIDEO GAMES AND
AUGMENTED REALITY: FROM THE PLAYROOM TO RESEARCH
Young scientists from PD Dr. Dinse’s Neural Plasticity Lab brought a first-person-shooter video game and presented their fascinating research findings. Many visitors sat at the computers to try out what their children and grandchildren use every day.
FROM FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH TO APPLICATION
Another project of the Neural Plasticity Lab is a stimulating glove, which is used in the treatment of stroke patients. Its aim is to improve sensorimotor performance. Visitors were able to try out its simple but effective application.
EYE-TRACKING-SYSTEM, MRI, AND EEG
What is behind these phrases and abbreviations? Young scientists from the departments of cognitive psychology (Prof. Wolf), neuropsychology (Prof. Suchan), and from the Bergmannsheil Clinic (Prof. Schmidt-Wilcke and Prof. Tegenthoff) brought technical devices, computers and answers. It quickly became clear: this is where cutting edge technology meets current social challenges.
