Pupils’ Competition

Writing contest 2021

Nobody can do nothing, nobody can do everything!
What is easy for you, I have to train for!

Billie Eilish’s song lyrics immediately get into your brain – but when your English teacher asks you how to form the “present perfect”, you have no idea how to search your memory. Without having to think, you kick the ball over the wall and into the corner of the goal – but you miss the C7 chord on the keyboard for the thousandth time? Nobody can do nothing, nobody can do everything! What comes naturally to you, your friends sometimes have to work hard to learn.

How do talent, effort and motivation fit together, and what happens in the brain when you learn? When do you reach your limits, or does your brain learn without limits? Tell us your stories, thoughts and insights. And what does science tell us about it? Whether it’s a short story, song lyrics, poem, comic, diary entry, chat history or scientific research – anything is possible.

Your text should not be longer than 3 A4 pages. You can work alone or in a team. Pupils from the 6th, 7th and 8th classes of all schools in Bochum can take part. Send us your contribution with your name, address and the completed entry form (available at www.rub.de/igsn) by e-mail or post to the following address by 2 November 2021:

International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN) Ruhr-Universität Bochum | Keyword: Writing Competition | FNO 01/114 | Universitätsstr. 150 | 44780 Bochum | E-Mail: heiler-igsn@rub.de
