Scientific dialogue:Researchers of the SFB 874 meet for the annual retreat

The scientists of the Collaborative Research Center 874 (SFB 874) met on June 25, 2019 for a joint retreat at Essen’s Stadt- und Tagungshotel Franz. A Retreat is a fixed point in the curriculum of Collaborative Research Centers, which offers the opportunity to come together and review the work of the past year, far away from the office, laboratory and lecture theater.

Scientists from all 15 projects of the SFB 874 came to Essen for this event to present their research, to exchange ideas and to deepen their contacts. At the beginning of the day, SFB 874 speaker Prof. Dr. med. Denise Manahan-Vaughan welcomed circa 60 retreat participants. The Principal Investigators then presented the current status of their work and their plans for the coming year. The subsequent roundtable discussions gave the participants the opportunity to ask questions and find possible points of contact for their own research projects. The day also provided a good opportunity to get to know the work of the new research projects of SFB 874 – which had come to the Collaborative Research Center in the third funding period. The time between lectures was extensively used to plan joint research projects and deepen cooperation – in line with the interdisciplinary orientation of SFB 874.

The Collaborative Research Center 874 “Integration and Representation of Sensory Processes” has been funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft since 2010 at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The researchers address the question of how sensory signals generate neuronal maps, resulting in complex behaviour and memory formation.
