Book release:Whisker system of rodents in focus

Professor Patrik Krieger publishes book on sensorimotor integration

Prof. Dr. Patrik Krieger, principal investigator in Collaborative Research Centre 874 at the Ruhr-University in Bochum, has joined with Dr. Alexander Groh of the Technical University Munich to publish a book on the latest knowledge of sensorimotor integration. With a particular focus on the whisker system of rodents, the book gives a comprehensive overview of the current research in this area.

Leading scientists contribute

Sensorimotor integration, the dynamic process by which the sensory and motor systems communicate with each other, is crucial to humans’ and animals’ ability to explore and react to their environment. In ten chapters, authored by the leading scientists in the field, this publication gives a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of this area of neuroscience.

Whisker system is model for sensorimotor integration

The whisker system is a useful model to experimentally approach sensorimotor integration in the mammalian brain. In the book Prof. Dr. Patrik Krieger and Dr. Alexander Groh, together with several experts, examine the whisker system on many different levels. Neuronal coding strategies, comparative analysis, as well as robotics are only some of the multiple facets of this exciting field. This research will have a broad impact on fundamental questions about the neurobiology of the mammalian brain.
