Scientists in “Retreat”

Collaborative Research Centre 874 looks back on current projects and plans new research

On June 24th, 2015, the Collaborative Research Centre 874 had its annual retreat at the Arcadeon conference hotel in Hagen. A retreat is an opportunity to get away from the office, the lab, and the lecture hall and take a look back at the achievements of the last year. Scientists from all 13 projects of the collaborative research center attended the event at the idyllic conference hotel in Hagen to present their research, exchange ideas and intensify collaborations. To start the day Prof. Dr. Manahan-Vaughan, speaker of Collaborative Research Centre 874, welcomed the 50 participants of the retreat. She reviewed the work of the last year and looked ahead at the goals that need to be achieved for a third funding period. Following this introduction, the principal investigators shared the current standings of their research and outlined their plans for the upcoming months. In discussions following the presentations, the participants took the opportunity to ask questions and find common ideas to integrate into their own research. The time between talks was used extensively to plan cooperative research projects and intensify existing collaborations – keeping in spirit with the interdisciplinary focus of the collaborative research center. At the final barbeque in the evening all neuroscientists in attendance were able to look back on a stimulating day full of new ideas and plans.
