Stability and plasticity of activity and specificity maps in early visual cortex

Summary

Modulation of cortical states in combination with systematic “training” protocols trigger targeted changes in cortical organization. We investigate how such induced plastic changes are established and stabilized in the context of behaviour. To capture intra- and cross-areal interactions across large populations of neurons with high resolution across space and time we use optical imaging in transgenic mouse models. Altogether our studies aim at practical implications for perceptual learning and rehabilitation in traumatic or neurodegenerative impairments of the brain.
