The relationship between implicit and explicit visuomotor task learning in hippocampus and parietal cortex

Summary

The parietal cortex and hippocampus are involved in the acquisition of visuomotor tasks to a varying degree, depending on explicitness, the difficulty and novelty of a task. We scrutinise the interplay of the two structures during learning and execution of visuomotor tasks using EEG, fMRI, EEG-fMRI, electrocorticography and single neuron recordings in humans. To accomplish this, we investigate visuomotor adaptations, transformations and associations in virtual reality tasks to better understand the role and interaction of parietal cortex and hippocampus during skill acquisition.
